Spanish fashion designers.
The fashion designers in Spain are
desired. A few months ago, we saw that nowadays, fashion is imposed by
those people we know as influencers, in charge of communicating to the
public the news of the sector and the key trends of each of the seasons.
But this has not continually been the case, in the past,
those in charge of setting trends and defining the styles that were worn
at all times were the designers themselves.
In today's post, we are going to meet five of the
great fashion professionals of our country, although surely some
of the names are familiar to you.
Spanish fashion designers
Christopher Balenciaga
Considered one of the most imperative inventors of
haute couture in our country , Balenciaga has always been
linked to the world of fashion.
She was born in 1895 in Guipúzcoa, where her mother
worked as a seamstress, who gave her some basic knowledge about sewing and
pattern making.
He trained as a couturier during his adolescence, working
in different renowned fashion houses in the city of San Sebastián.
She opened her first sewing workshop, Eisa (maternal
surname) in 1919, at the hands of her sister. In later years, his fame
grew and he dressed renowned personalities from the royal family and the
aristocracy of the time.
With the outbreak of the Civil War, Balenciaga closed its
stores and went to Paris.
His designs focused, above all, on the comfort and
naturalness of the female body.
He retired in 1968 and refunded to Spain, where he lived
until his death in 1972.
Manuel Pertegaz
Another of the great names in fashion in our country
is Pertegaz , born in 1918 in
the town of Olba, Teruel. At the age of ten he moved to Barcelona and
while still a child, he began working in a tailor shop.
His first business in the world of fashion was started in
1942, at which time he opened his first couture house in Barcelona, with a
collection of original and elegant clothes.
In the 1950s, it began its international expansion, at
which time it began to sell its garments in the United States, United Kingdom,
Switzerland and Canada and to present collections in cities around the world:
London, Cairo, Venice, Santiago de Chile or Copenhagen. .
In the 1960s, she created her first boutique collection,
which was presented at the Gala in Spain.
He continued his career carrying out constant
innovations, launching in 1997 a collection focused on the male public.
After a long career as a designer ,
Manuel Pertegaz died in 2014.
Paco Rabanne
In 1934 Francisco Rabaneda Cuervo was born, commonly
known as the designer Paco Rabanne .
His first contact with the world of fashion was while he
was a child, since his mother was the head seamstress of the Balenciaga fashion
workshop in the city of San Sebastián.
At the age of five, Francisco moved with his family to
France, where years later he studied Architecture at the École Nationale
Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
His first jobs for the fashion sector were jewelery
pieces that he sold to large firms such as Balenciaga, Dior or Givenchy.
At the age of 26, he presented his first collection, in
which he used different materials such as aluminum,
chain mail, paper or plastic . Years later, adding
others such as mother-of-pearl or reinforced nylon to its collections.
In 1999 he retired from haute couture.
Manolo blahnik
One of the most famous shoe designers ,
not only nationally, but also with great international prestige, is Manolo Blahnik , born in
1942 in Santa Cruz de la Palma.
After studying International Law and Literature in Geneva
and art at the École du Louvre and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he moved
to London where he worked as a clerk and editor for Vogue Hombre Hombre Italia.
It was the editor-in-chief of the US headquarters of this
magazine who encouraged him to dedicate himself to shoe design. Blahnik
followed his advice and in 1973 he opened his first store in London, kicking
off a meteoric career.
Adolfo Dominguez
This Galician, born in 1950, began his studies in Fine
Arts and Cinematography at the Vicennes University, Paris.
He decided to return to Spain after a trip to England in
which he observed the industrialization of that country. His idea was to
revolutionize the world of fashion in his home country.
In 1983, he set up his brand in a family tailor shop,
with a sober collection based on freedom, influenced by the Japanese designers
of the moment.
The key piece of his career as a designer was the tailored suit , used by
both men and women in the workplace.
Other big names in the world of fashion in our country
who have influenced different generations and new professionals in the sector
are: Jesús del Pozo, Francis Montesinos, Agatha Ruíz de la Prada, Amaya Arzuaga
or David Delfín, among many others.
